H. B. Humphries was founded by Harold Burghley Humphries in 1946. He built up his company over a career spanning 31 years. The company was originally based in the centre of Kettering. In 1972, with the Company expanding, he bought a plot of land on the new proposed Industrial site, where the company continues to grow at Telford Way Industrial Estate, Kettering.
Harold’s son, Roger Humphries, joined the company at 15 years old in 1962. When his father retired in 1977, he became Managing Director and worked alongside his wife, Fran.
During his 35 years as Managing Director, Roger has overseen an on-going expansion of the Company and has guided it to the forefront of the Sheet Metal Fabrication Industry in the UK. This is thanks to a combination of employing an experienced team and a continual investment in state-of-the-art equipment for the workshops. This has granted us a nation-wide customer base, and our produce can be found in popular landmarks all over the country, such as Chester Zoo and the Silverstone Circuit.
In 1989 their son, Lee, joined H B Humphries and in 2005 started HBH Laser where both companies work alongside each other.
Their daughter, Niki, joined soon after and works within both companies in Accounts and HR.
In 2018, Fran Humphries (Roger’s wife), took over as Managing Director of the company, which continues to flourish. One of her main aims is the continuation of Apprentices learning the skills of bespoke craftmanship.
